In this short piece I wish to clarify my thoughts regarding the use of transitional or creative space, and objects, between patient and therapist. Particular speculation will be offered to the nature of illusion (hope) and disillusion (loss), in respect of the patient’s experience and the intrusion of illusory narrative, propagated through cultural phenomena such as news media, literature and institutions such as science and academia. In his 1953 paper on ‘Transitional Object
